Offshore Soil Investigations (800 MW)
BLIX defined a program for offshore soil investigations commissioned by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The aim was to use the available survey budget for maximum reduction of the soil uncertainties for offshore wind farm zones Hudson North and South. In addition to providing strategic advice, drawing up the tender documents and preparing the technical and commercial specifications, procurement support was offered to select contractors to perform geophysical and geotechnical investigations. Also, BLIX supported the selection of an owners engineer to further support during the execution of the investigations.
In February 2020 phase 2 of this project started. BLIX is currently assisting with contracting the suppliers to perform the investigations. Contracting the owner's engineer for the client, who will be responsible for coordinating the campaigns, is part of this phase.
The purpose of the State of New York is expressed in New Green Deal, the overall goal is: 100% clean electricity in 2040. For offshore the goal is: commitment to develop 9,000 MW of offshore wind by 2035, enough to power up to 6 million homes.
Quote Ben de Sonneville, senior consultant: "We are glad we got the opportunity to implement the lessons learned with soil investigations in Europe and thereby contribute to a lower LCoE of the offshore wind farm developments of New York."
