BLIX Asia to be strengthened with new offshore wind expert

BLIX'er Niek Olijve will strengthen BLIX Asia with his knowledge and expertise

BLIX Asia -BLIX Consultancy’s branch office in Taipei, Taiwan- will be strengthened with a new employee from the Netherlands. Niek Olijve, started at the BLIX home office in the Netherlands in April of this year and is an experienced project manager and offshore wind and grids expert. Niek will take on the role as Interface and Risk Manager on the Hai Long Project.

I’m very excited to be joining my BLIX colleagues in Taipei! Taiwan is one of the fastest growing offshore wind markets in Asia and offers many interesting challenges. I’m looking forward to contributing to the development of the Hai Long Wind Farm which will be a big step forward in the Taiwanese energy transition,” said Niek Olijve.

The Hai Long Project wind farm is a 1,044MW offshore wind farm project to be developed approximately 50km off the coast of Changhua County in Taiwan, expected to be commissioned in 2025. BLIX has been working on Contract and Balance-of-Plant (BoP) management in Taiwan on behalf of Canada-based Northland Power, since 2019.

Hai Long PMO Manager Frank Spee said “we’re happy to welcome Niek to the Hai Long team and look forward to his contributions to our project management team as we move through development and start preparing the project for delivery. BLIX has been instrumental in the project development of Hai Long thus far and it’s a pleasure to expand our good collaboration right here in Taipei.

In 2020, BLIX Asia was established as BLIX Consultancy’s first office outside of the Netherlands, with the goal to support the offshore wind business in the Asia Pacific region. The branch office was established by BLIX founder Maarten Timmerman and business development director Willemijn van der Werf and is located at the centre of Taiwan’s capital Taipei.

Willemijn van der Werf: “First of all, we would like to welcome Niek to Taiwan! We opened our BLIX Asia branch office earlier this year and with Niek’s arrival we again expand our local presence and our support to the Hai Long project. Taiwan and many other countries in the APAC region have far reaching renewable energy ambitions and we are happy to contribute to the growth of the offshore wind sector.”
